We put eleven real editing requests in front of the panel and measured which ones it could even express. Six of them died on the same three walls, and not one of the three is a bug in the panel: they are things Premiere does not hand to a panel at all. Resolve carries all three inside the same window as the timeline.
Inside Premiere a panel can hand an effect a clip and a timecode, never a region of the picture. So “make all the players flash green” and “sweep a light across these four gems, one by one” have nowhere to land. Resolve holds a subject as a thing of its own: Magic Mask lifts a person or an object out of a shot from a single stroke, and it stays lifted while the shot moves.
A rectangle over a face, a circle around a detail, a code lock with ten keys and a six digit code on it. Premiere ships no drawing effect a panel can reach. Resolve has Fusion in the same application and on the same timeline, where shapes, masks and text are nodes instead of a round trip out to a second program and back.
A blue box that stays on a head while the head walks across the shot. We went looking for Premiere’s tracker from inside a panel, across three hundred and one entries of what scripting can see, with a control that proved the search itself worked. It is not reachable. Resolve has a point tracker and a planar tracker built in, and that is the whole difference.
Resolve has tracks and it has a razor, which is why the plan there is the whole panel and not a subset: everything the Premiere version does has somewhere to live. The one thing missing from this page is missing on purpose, and it is right below.
When, and how much. Neither one is settled, and a guess printed here would be a promise nobody made. What is settled is above: what the panel is being built to do in DaVinci Resolve, and what it will not pretend to do.
